FAQ
Is this book just for traditional/classical artists?
No. Artists Inspired will cover many disciplines, genres, styles, mediums and approaches to art. There will be painters, photographers, sculptors, designers, illustrators, digital artists, abstract and hyper-realist artists, and many more featured — even including a few writers, composers and choreographers.
How is the selection of artists made?
The final selection will be based on how inspiring the words and art is, not how "famous" the person is (although, often artists become famous because they are inspiring, so we have invited some prominent artists to participate).
How much will the book be on sale for?
The price and press schedules have yet to be set unfortunately. We will be collating and typesetting/designing the book then taking it to publishers to determine these details. However, we will be proposing a low-cost/low-margin rate for the book so as to make it much more affordable. We are primarily an organisation with a mandate to inspire our "world" of artists, so by keeping the book cost as low as possible, we can ensure that many more people will be able to have their own copy to refer to whenever they need inspiration and encouragement to express themselves more fully.
Where will the book be sold?
Everywhere! Initially we plan to sell the book online through Amazon, and then move into "Stage 2" with distribution through local bookstores and art suppliers globally.
Will the book be translated into other languages?
Yes. Initially the book will be released in English, but we are discussing plans to have it translated into French, Japanese, Spanish, German and Mandarin soon afterward. Other languages will also be considered dependant on demand.
How many artists will be featured?
Because we want to offer an overview of many disciplines/mediums of the arts and a real "reference" of many approaches to inspiration and the arts, we are featuring about 100 selected artists.
When will it be ready?
We don't have a definite publishing date at this point, but we envisage it will be ready to hit the press by the beginning of next year.
When is the deadline for artists submissions?
Deadline for artwork and text is the beginning of December, however our print schedules have not yet been set so we are pretty flexible at this point. We'd love to get everything completed earlier than that, but we'd rather you have more time to complete the questions than rush through it.
What are the dimensions of the book pages?
The dimensions of the book are yet to be finalised unfortunately, but at this point we're leaning towards a "handy reference" sized book of approximately A5 size (or slightly smaller actually). This is a very "portable" size — more for reading and referring to regularly (where ever you are) than just another big "pretty" art book for glancing through when you're at home or at the library — so that's our main rationale for the smaller size.
What size artwork do you require for submissions?
At this point the larger the image the better for us — it gives us options! But the minimum size required would be 195x140mm at 300dpi resolution.
Will the artwork (and words) supplied be
used
for
anything else?
No. Material supplied for Artists Inspired will only be used in the Artist Inspired book and potentially this website (just a few "examples" so people can see the quality of the book's artists and inspirational content).
Is there a "contract" and do I keep my copyright?
Written consent to use the words and image(s) supplied is given by the artists as part of the questionaire, and artwork will not be published anywhere except the book and possibly our website (although only a few artist "examples" will be placed on our website). Copyright of the artwork remains with the artist.
Will the artwork (and words) supplied be modified?
Questionaire responses may be shortened, but not edited in any other way. Artwork may be cropped in some circumstances unless you specify that you wish to keep your artwork exactly as supplied. No other editing or manipulation will be made to the artwork.
Is there any "entry fee" or cost for artists submissions?
There is absolutely no cost to the artists at all — just the time and thought put into our little questionaire (below), plus a digital version of one of your artworks for us to reproduce in the book along with your text. We have a mandate to inspire young and 'blocked' artists to find and express their full potential, so we're certainly not going to charge the artists that help us fulfil that mandate!
Do featured artists receive a copy of the book?
Yes, we'd be more than happy to provide you with a complimentary copy once it is published if you are selected.
